I was born in Los Angeles and never left. There are so many things I love about this place. The cool beautiful damp sunrise mornings at the beach, the dry, harsh areas of desert all around us.The fact that every visit to Leo Carrillo State Beach reveals something new and different. Driving over the Grapevine even has it's own sense of beauty. I am wanting to be present every moment, don't always succeed but the intention is there. I am willing to not know what comes next and trust that all will be okay.
I just came back from the Hollywood Bowl, enjoyed a very high energy fun eclectic concert "India Calling" with 6 different performers from India. Anoushka Shankar conducted the Ravi Shankar Centre Ensemble and also performed herself. There was a group from Rajasthan called Rhythmn of Rajasthan, Yogens Bollywood Step Dance Troupe, It was amazing and wonderful and Kailash Kher told us that today was International Peace Day.In the spirit of peace he wished everyone Rosh hashanah. The evening closed with Malkit Singh dancing everyone out. Tonight before bed I am thinking world peace and love. May the world be blessed today with thoughts of love and peace for all
This artwork was created by using rusty metal to print on silk, the rusted silk was then torn into strips and woven off loom, freeform machine stitching was added , hand painted face, stitched loops and an old recycled piece of wood from an old fence. I feel in some ways like I have been asleep for a long time and am just waking up, I believe this feeling is being shared by many others. We are all just waking up to co create a wonderful new vision of what our world can really be. But waking up can be scary and many are feeling the fear. Breathe consciously and surrender to the moment.
This artwork is titled "Across" the Universe. I created it using rusty metal printed on silk, then I took one of the rusted metal "planet" shapes and scanned it into my computer , had some digital play fun with it and printed it in grayscale and then transfer printed it onto the silk. I sewed on a piece of old wood from a torn down fence to complete and to allow for hanging of the piece. I've been thinking a lot about our connection to each other to our earth and the earth to the universe. I believe it is foolish of us to think that we are the only inhabited planet in this universe.
9-9-09 seems an appropriate day to post this artwork
called Collective Oneness and celebrating between the one and the nine. One is the "I" the single mind, the nine is the community, the collective consciousness. Somewhere in between the two is where we all live.
This piece was created using rusty metal to print on cotton fabric which was then dyed and transfer printed with digital photo images.
This piece is called Soul Journey, about my path thru this life.
To create it I used rusty metal to print on cotton for the background, additional sheer cotton was rust printed and stitched on top of the background. The symbol was screenprinted and
represents the soul's journey up thru life. The finished piece was
then mounted on a wood board. This piece is 14 inches by 21.5 inches
